What shapes, what holds back, and what will push forward art history in Southeast Asia? What is the contemporary state of affair that art history is facing in Southeast Asia? Has it become an established discipline in the region? What are the problems in aligning the regional art historical discourses into a more comprehensive narrative in Southeast Asia? How is art history aligned or re-aligned itself with the diverse development of exhibitions, museums and art centers in the regional art worlds? Connecting Art Histories of Southeast Asia is a public event that will present series of individual lecture as well as a roundtable discussion among the art historical scholars on the topics around art history, exhibitions, museums and art centers in Southeast Asia.
This program is organized by Visual Art Study Program and Galeri Soemardja – Faculty of Art and Design ITB, in cooperation with The Power Institute – University of Sydney and National Gallery Singapore.
