Freehand Sketching Workshop was held for students of the Interior Design Study Program FSRD ITB
On November 22, 2022, a Freehand Sketching Workshop was held for students of the Interior Design Study Program FSRD ITB. Students from other programs also took part in this workshop.
Freehand sketching is making sketches with only basic tools: pencils, pens, markers, and others. There are 2 basic tools and aids. The basic tools are used as the main media in sketching and the aids are used to complement basic tools, for example a ruler, an eraser, and so on.
“Freehand Sketching” recorded on paper media and the like, dates back 400 years. Every century has its dynamics, including today with digital drawing technology. This workshop highlights the relevance of your own potential in the middle of technology which is always changing. Humans are endowed with the ability to adapt, including in the context of visual abilities through hand drawings. It is just how we continuously activate this self-potential through continuous practice.
Agah Nugraha Muharam, S.Ds, alumni of Interior Design FSRD ITB said that the concept is “appreciative” which includes two stages. First, participants make sketches with permanent markers on A4 paper. This encourages participants to appreciate their potential that has not yet been seen, that is courage (not afraid of making mistakes), self-confidence (not afraid of being commented on), and direct sketch ability (effective observation). Second, participants collect sketches and tell the process of making (representatives). Previously, the committee had prepared sticky notes to be distributed to each participant. Everyone is required to give objective comments about the work of his/her friends. This trains the courage to accept and give comments related to work. Sketches can function as a medium for documenting ideas, concepts, and travel notes. For today’s context they can be used as content, and sketches can even function as the work itself.
