Memories of Peru
“Peru, Peru. My heart’s lighthouse”
-Morissey
Before gaining independence from Spanish colonialism in 1979, Peru had a rich and diverse history spanning 3,000 to 4,000 years. Its vibrant identity, represented by the red and white flag, South American culture, and tropical conditions, has left an indelible mark, making it a country easy to remember and love.
To commemorate this rich heritage, the "Memories of Peru" exhibition opened at the Soemardja Gallery, FSRD ITB, on Monday, November 13, 2023. The exhibition showcased the atmosphere of Peru during the 1890-1950s period, offering a glimpse into the country's past through a collection of captured images by various individuals. These images aim to be shared and remembered together, offering a unique perspective on Peru's cultural evolution.
The opening ceremony featured remarks by the Peruvian Ambassador to Indonesia, Luis Raūl Tsuboyama Galvān, and Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, M.Sn., the Dean of FSRD ITB. The exhibition was held on Monday, November 20, 2023, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Peru's history and culture. Ambassador Luis Raūl Tsuboyama Galvān expressed his hope that the exhibition would evoke memories of Peru's past, offering a nostalgic journey for both Peruvians and visitors alike. The event is expected to be a celebration of Peru's heritage, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of its cultural legacy.
