JRMN001, Terracotta, Cable ties, 2023 by Dr. Nurdian Ichsan, S.Sn., M.Sn.
Dr. Nurdian Ichsan, S.Sn., M.Sn., the Vice Dean of Academic FSRD ITB, exhibited his work “JRMN001, Terracotta, Cable ties, 2023” at Artjog 2023.
The work uses repeating modules of slender rod shapes to create a certain arrangement. Structures similar to simple geometries are combined and connected to one another, giving rise to larger organic forms, disguising their basic form, appearing increasingly complex and lumpy.
His installation is assembled to resemble a collection of odd objects floating in a certain corner above the exhibition space. This placement suggests an attempt to remove the impression of the physical weight of the work. The relatively light and easy form of clay material inspires him to adapt the concept for this work.
“This work combines the highly fragile natural ceramic material and the strong plastic bonding elements, which are often considered contradictory, in the industrial world. This amalgamation indicates that, in the end, human-centeredness still dominates material meaning. The bonds seem to add a new mark to the set of lumped structures of his ceramic work. The structure and overall form of this work will change when the artist wants to adapt it to another space, like organisms.”, said Dr. Nurdian Ichsan, S.Sn., M.Sn.
His work can be seen at the Art Jogja 2023 from June 10 to August 27, 2023. Here, inspiring works from some alumni are also exhibited.
