Project Presentation
“The Pictures of Conflict: War and Art in Southeast Asia”

The role of visual culture in communicating Southeast Asian perspectives on conflict over the 19th and 20th centuries can reveal a great deal about the formation of individual and community attitudes and behaviours in times of conflict and peace.

The Pictures of Conflict: War and Art in Southeast Asia aims to develop partnerships between academics from ANU, UNSW Canberra, University of Melbourne and ITB curatorial staff at the National Gallery of Singapore (NGS) and the Australian War Memorial (AWM), in order to work towards a collaborative research project with significant outputs.

Presenter:
Dr. Elly Kent, (Australian National University)
Dr. Wulan Dirgantoro, (University of Melbourne)
Kathleen Ditzig, PhD, (National Gallery of Singapore)
Dr. A. Rikrik Kusmara, (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
Dr. Willy Himawan, (Institut Teknologi Bandung)
